Myvu Crystal Personal Media Viewer review

by admin on January 28, 2010

While the concept of using head-mounted displays (HMD) is not that new, proper applications for the technology have not been developed until the first few years of the 21st century. These developments are now in the form of personal media viewers, literally the descendants of HMD’s, infused with style and comfort that were not possible with the big oversized helmets of old. For today video eyewear glasses review, we shall now see the performance of one these innovative descendants, the Myvu Crystal Personal Media Viewer Edition.

The look into the 25th century right at your fingertips
That’s right, the Mvyu Personal Media Viewer Crystal Edition still retains that great cool and stylish sleekness that the older my vu glasses have, but it also offers one good visual innovation that jump started its look and feel well over the timeline that it’s supposed to be. Yes, these personal media viewers actually offer certain models with semi-transparent “lenses”. No more fear of looking like a total dork when you’re bored during long flights, and with more style that’s supposed to come out later, it might just be the next potential gadget fashion accessory.

Screen is all there is to it
Thankfully the Crystal Edition offers pictures and video of very nice quality, rivaling some of the older versions by almost four times its previous video capabilities. The screen now has a 640×480 pixel resolution, and while it probably looks feeble to your home HDTV or LCD computer monitor, it sure is one hell of an improvement from the relatively small 320×240 screen, as you can now “enlarge” the size of the screen without worrying about those bulging blocks of seemingly indistinguishable color patterns. The additional 33-35% increase in the perceptive field of view of the viewer also allows the user to have a more enjoyable experience, further enhancing the sense of deep immersion into the viewer’s “world”.

Simple interfacing
Like any other Mvyu personal media viewer, the Crystal Edition also offers a control pad, in which you can adjust the color, contrast and brightness settings. Unfortunately though, precision control is not quite possible, as you are usually limited to 4 different levels of adjustment, but it’s kind of a good payoff considering that the screen’s quality is much, much better than before.

As with all frequent travelers out there, the Crystal Edition is highly recommended if you want to have less arm strain during your travels (due to constantly having to raise your arms a bit when using iPhones). Definitely a must have for people who would otherwise have no time to sit down at a good wide video screen to watch movies or do daily business.
